How to price your work as a UK tradesperson

Most tradespeople undercharge because they only look at the hours on the tools. A realistic rate has to cover the time you spend quoting, driving between jobs, chasing invoices and doing admin — plus your van, fuel, insurance, tools and time off. The calculator above builds that in automatically.

Rule of thumb: most sole-trader UK tradespeople land between £35–£65 an hour. Specialists (gas, electrical, restoration) sit higher. If your number comes out lower than the local going rate, you're probably being too generous with the "billable hours" slider.
